Another month gone and we’re almost at the end of the year. Can you believe it? It’s getting cold in Minnesota (and dark pretty early) so I’m sharing some of my favorites to keep warm and cozy this month.
Coffee is a year-round drink for me (except when I cut out caffeine the week before a race) but it’s so nice this time of year. I take Vinnie out for his morning pee when it’s dark and cold outside and it’s so nice to come in and smell the coffee being made. After I have my breakfast, I’ve started a routine of curling up on the couch with my blanket to finish drinking my giant mug of coffee. Look for a post on Sunday on my favorite ways to make my coffee!
My yellow running jacket
This is the one running related thing on my list of favorites. But it is my go-to jacket for when it’s cold and dark outside. It’s bright yellow so I’m visible, has a high collar (to cover exposed skin) and has a micro-fleece layer on the inside so I keep nice and warm (but not hot) while running! I got it from TJ Maxx last year (so it didn’t break the bank) and I wish I had bought a second one.
Like coffee, I love my fleece blanket year-round. But it’s needed most when it’s so cold outside. Even though we don’t pay for heat, it’s hard to keep our apartment a consistent temperature and we prefer to turn the heat off at night (or else I wake up sweating being sandwiched between Mike and Vinnie). So while we watch TV at night, I curl up in my blanket and keep nice and cozy.
Vinnie is not a cuddling dog by his nature. He much prefers to curl up on the loveseat with all the blankets and pillows. But this time of year, I often get him to come over and curl up next to me for extra warmth. Of course, he gets scratches which he loves but it's a struggle for him to get off his comfy loveseat to snuggle with me. There’s often a sigh or two that happens as he’s making his way over.
