Mixing up my cardio with the rowing machine

If you’ve been following me on Instagram and checking out my stories, you’ll have noticed a new item popping up every once in awhile. I’ve been using the rowing machine for cardio! The LA Fitness that I go to has two rowing machines up in the cardio area and I always just walked past them to the elliptical. Because they looked complicated and I didn’t want to make a fool of myself.


But one morning, no one else was up there so I took the plunge to try out one of the rowing machines. And I fell in love with it! If you haven’t tried one out, just jump on and trying it once. I did and now I know how great it is.

So, why do I like the rowing machine over something like the elliptical? The biggest thing probably is that it’s something different than the elliptical. I’ve been using elliptical for cardio for years and it just gets boring after a while. And most of the cardio equipment at LA Fitness are elliptical-like so there’s not too variation going on a different machine.

Another thing I love is that I have to use my whole body to get in my cardio.My heart rate gets up so much quicker which makes it the perfect machine to use as a warm up. Unlike the elliptical, my arm and back muscles get warmed up so I feel ready in about five minutes to start lifting. Plus I don’t feel like I have to stay on there forever just to get sweaty if I want a good cardio session on a day I’m not running.

Right now, I'm usually just getting on the rowing machine and getting going, maybe throwing in some speedier sections when I feel like it. So if you know a good rowing machine workout, let me know in the comments!
