I still can’t believe it’s already September. This year has been flying by and so has marathon training. It’s been feeling a lot more fall-like in Minnesota, especially since I’ve been running more in the mornings when it’s not even 60° outside.
The weather has been pretty awesome because I feel like it’s making my runs feel a lot easier since it’s not hot and humid. Especially these last two weeks of August, I’m running sub-11 minute miles on my easy runs because it feels easy! It’s also helping me get ready for marathon race day which will be a lot cooler (and also gorgeous, fall colors will be peaking in the Twin Cities that weekend).
I’m still amazed at how great my 20 mile run was, it was the one run I was most scared about. So hopefully that has set a great stage for both my 20 mile race next Saturday and my marathon in less than a month! I’ve been thinking a lot about my pacing for both of those races and, even though I’ve been training at a marathon pace of 10:30, I’m going to see how an 11:00 minute pace feels in my 20 mile race. It would still give me a sub 5-hour marathon and feels like a pace that I could keep up for 26.2 miles.
I’ve been finding myself enjoying my cross-training more and more in August, which has gotten me thinking about post-marathon plans. Nothing concrete yet but I know it’s going to include more strength training to gain some more muscle and help improve my running even more.
