A Running Survey

I thought I’d do something a little bit different and quickly answer some questions about running! I’m going to keep my answers short and sweet but feel free to ask me more questions in comments. Or answer a question or two yourself!

What is your favorite type of cross training?

Strength training and the rowing machine. I’m still waiting for my apartment gym to put in the rowing machine they’ve said is coming though….

What is your favorite song to run to?

Anything from Hamilton although one of my favorites right now is The Decemberists’ Ben Franklin’s Song.

What brand of shoes do you wear?

Brooks Ghosts, currently I’m still running in the 9s but I do have a pair of 10s ready to test out!

Do you wear a hat when you run?

If it’s sunny on a long run or raining. Otherwise, I prefer a headband.

What temperature is your favorite for running?

Not below freezing. I think I’ve forgotten what it’s like to run  in warmer weather after this winter. But I’d have to say 55-65 is just perfect.

Do you run solo or with a buddy?

Solo, although once it gets warmer Mike will probably join me on his bike.

Are you a morning, noon, or evening runner?

Morning and evening, but if I could I’d run in the morning all the time. But weather and work don’t allow for that year-round.

Do you have any big races coming up?

My next race is March 24th, the Hot Dash 10 mile! My A goal race is the Eau Claire Marathon on May 6th and then I have the Stillwater Half on May 26th.

What is your favorite post run snack?

Protein smoothie, usually with a banana or frozen fruit.

What is your favorite distance?

Anything double digits, I love zoning out on my long runs during marathon training. But for racing, I’d have to say 5K. It’s fast so the pain doesn’t last (as) long.

What is your favorite race?

The Twin Cities Marathon weekend races, I’ve now run them all and they are great. It’s (usually) great weather over marathon weekend and there’s everything from the 5K to the marathon.

What is your least favorite race?

Graniteman Half Marathon, it was my second half and just not a good experience. The course wasn’t certified and ended up being about 12.8 miles plus there was a section running on wet grass.

How long have you been running?

It’s been four years since I first the Couch to 5K program in 2014. I did my first 5K that year too!

Do you wear your engagement/wedding ring when you run?

Nope, I wear a silicone ring when I run or workout.

What is your favorite type of run? Tempo? Long? Repeat? Fartleks?

Long runs except when I need to get some frustrations out quickly. Then I like a short interval run.

What do you drink to stay hydrated?

Nuun on the run, water through the day.

What do you take on a run? Does it vary by distance?

I always have my Flipbelt and phone. If it’s hot or longer than 10 miles, I’ll carry my Nathan handheld with Nuun. I also carry Gus for runs above 14 miles.
