Now that I’m back in the swing of marathon training, I’m bringing back the monthly running in review posts!
Marathon training in the winter is so different from marathon training in the summer. Yes, weather plays a huge part in it but even the same routes look so different. And, because of the weather, I’m having to run on the treadmill a lot more often than during the summer.
One of my big goals for February is get that easy/long run pace down pat. I’m slowly getting better it as time goes on but I’d like to get it down so I have a solid endurance base for the Eau Claire marathon. There are still times where I go out way too fast at the beginning of my runs which will not bode well for race day.
I wanted to give a quick update on my personal and fitness goals for 2018 also. Not too much to report on the fitness goals front except that I have been practicing yoga every Friday in January! My other goals are race related so hopefully I’ll be getting a new 5K PR next Saturday at the TC Valentine’s Day 5K.
I’m right on track to reach my person goals too!
Read 12 books in 2018: I finished one book in January (Down Among the Sticks and Bones) and am almost done with a second (The Last Tudor). I would have finished two books in January but I didn’t quite finish The Handmaid’s Tale before it was due back to the library. I’m also back to listening to audiobooks on my runs and am currently listening to The Lost Tudor Princess.
Knit 52 squares on my scrap blanket: I’ve finished four squares so far and am on track! But I need to get into the habit of working on it earlier in the week so I don’t feel like I’m rushing through it. Monday nights are when Mike is gone for bowling and is the perfect time to work on it.
Meditate daily for at least 5 minutes: I’ve been meditating daily for all of 2018 so far! I tried upping it to 10 minutes on the weekends but I think I need a little more time before doubling my meditation time. But it’s a great way to start my morning and I’m feeling much calmer overall since starting.
How was January for you? Let me know in the comments!
