What's next for my running?

So far in 2018, I’ve run four races and it’s been busy! But now my race calendar is empty for the rest of the 2018. That’s right, no more races planned. That doesn’t mean I won’t jump into a race or fun run but for now I’m focusing having fun running versus training for a new PR. To go along with that, I’ve got some goals for my workouts for the rest of the year and a new training schedule.

Workout Goals

  • Explore new places: I loved running along Minnehaha Creek over the winter so I’m hoping to get out and explore more new places to run. There’s so many running paths in the Twin Cities that I can’t wait to try out.

  • Try trail running: going along with exploring new places, some of these are going to be trails! I’ve been interested in trying out trail running but didn’t want to risk injuring myself while I was training for a race.

  • Focusing on cross-training: I’m going to continue with my Monday cross-training day of strength training and spin class. But I’m also working on adding in more core work during the week and trying out some new yoga videos. It will give me some new challenges that aren’t running related and improve my running.

  • Get out for some hikes: Mike and i are looking at a couple of hikes over the summer. We already have a camping trip planned to Cascade River State Park in late June so we’ll be hiking a ton up there.

Training Schedule

Monday: NTC strength training and spin class

Tuesday: 4 miles + core

Wednesday: 3 miles

Thursday: 4 miles + core

Friday; Rest day (yoga)

Saturday: 5 miles

Sunday: 8-10 miles

It’s going to be busy summer but lots of fun! I can’t wait to share all my adventures with you all as I take some time off from race training. But don’t worry, I’m not gone from races forever. I’ve still got some PRs in these legs!
