Since I did a favorites post every single month of 2018, I thought it would be fun and go back through those posts and pick one from each month that I’m still in love with!
The Good Place
Mike and I started watching The Good Place on our honeymoon. We got through all of season one and caught up on season two during the week we were in Seattle. That’s how good this show is! I can’t say much because it will spoil the show but I love how they basically changed the show’s premise for season two and how well it works. Plus the cast is amazing. This show is a must watch if you love a good laugh.
The Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire
I love this series, I read the first book in November 2017 and was hooked. They are quick reads (less than 200 pages) but a really interesting take on fantasy. I loved how Seanan created the idea of how these different worlds are connected to our own and what happens to the children who stumble through the doorways into them. I finished the third book in February 2018 and now I’m just waiting for the fourth book to come out this month!
I’ve been listening to the BibRave podcast since the summer of 2017 and it’s a great podcast. Tons of information about running and lots of fun topics. I’ve even re-listened to a couple of the podcasts because of the great information.
Besides running (of course!) this has been my favorite form of cardio. It’s been a while since I’ve taken a group fitness class but I’m loving my Monday spin class. It’s a great way to get my heart rate up without the impact of running. Plus I can easily zone out and not worry about keeping track of where I am.
Painting My Nails
My nails have been growing out amazingly (and not breaking) so I was painting them more often than not in 2018. It’s just a fun little bit of self-care I can do that doesn’t cost a ton of money or time.
Mike, Vinnie and I had so much fun hiking on our June camping trip and also went out to Afton for a family hike. We can’t wait for spring to come so we can get out on some more hikes! Especially now that we have a Minnesota State Park sticker for the next year and there are so many great hikes within a couple hours of driving.
I first heard about Ologies when Allie Ward started being on Alison Rosen is Your New Best Friend. And it still took about a month for me to start listening to Ologies; a choice that I now regret because I love the show! It’s a great mixture of science and comedy as Allie interviews different people about their field of studies. I’ve never been so interested to learn about slugs as when I saw it was the topic of an episode.
Prospero’s War series by Jaye Well
I don’t read a ton of urban fantasy but when I saw this in the RBDigital audiobook app, I decided to give it a shot. I loved it and I’ve almost finished books two and three in August! I’m getting the next book soon to read, I had to request it via interlibrary loan since my library doesn’t have it at all.
Podcasts get me through the work day and I don’t know how I got through it before them! Mike introduced me to a lot of podcasts I still listen to when we started dating (six years ago!) and I have over 50 that I listen to on a regular basis. Some of my favorites this month have been:
Girls Gone Wod Podcast
Go Fact Yourself
Oh No Ross and Carrie
Even though it’s been chilly, I’m back on the smoothie bowl train! I still love my protein cakes and they are my favorite dessert but I’ve been defaulting to smoothie bowls after my cross training workouts. And our new NutriBullet blender makes them super fast to mix up! My favorite toppings for these have still been peanut butter, chocolate chips and coconut flakes.
Hercule Poirot novels
I’ve been slowly dipping my toes into the Hercule Poirot novels over the summer and now I’m determined to make it through all of them! I started out with the audiobook version of The Mysterious Affair at Styles, then read Murder on the Orient Express and now I’m reading The Murder on the Links. If my library had audiobook copies of all the books, I’d go through them much faster (the narrator is amazing) but for now, it looks like I’ll be working through on hard copies.
Spending Time With Family
One of the great things about Christmas is that we get to spend so much time with our families. Besides Christmas tree decorating with Mike’s family, we also did a game night with his dad’s side already and have a couple of days set aside for celebrations post-Christmas. My parents also made a trip down to the Cities right before Christmas and we’ve already spent two days up North with both sides of my family to celebrate Christmas.
