Why I Love Running Turkey Trots

Turkey trots have been a tradition ever since Mike and I started dating and it’s one I’m excited to introduce Oliver to! We’ll be walking the Invisalign Turkey Day 5K Minneapolis this year (along with Vinnie) so I thought I’d share why I love running turkey trots.

So many options!

I’ve done four turkey trots with Mike’s family and each year it’s been a different one! And there’s still more I haven’t done that are within driving distance, it’s amazing how you can mix up your race every single year. Even this year’s race is a new one to me and it’s an area I don’t run in much.

Great family event

Turkey trots are accessible to anyone which makes it a great family event. I’ve run some (including getting a 5K PR last year) and walked others so it’s something for everyone. I even noticed the Invisalign Turkey Day 5K Minneapolis has a discounted kid’s 5K and a special short run for kdis aged 2-10.

I’m loving how the Invisalign Turkey Day 5K Minneapolis has their corrals set up so there is one for running with strollers. We won’t be taking advantage of that this year but it’s something I rarely see.

Motivation to get moving

Thanksgiving can get pretty chilly in Minnesota (the first turkey trot I did was sub-zero feel like temperatures) and it’s only the beginning of what can feel like a never ending winter. Signing up for a turkey trot gets you out on a weekday while the sun is still out and having fun with friends and family.
